NOIRVEMBER: SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS: We bring NOIRVEMBER at the Onyx Downtown at the Nevada Theatre to a close with one of the most cynical films in the genre. Burt Lancaster portrays J.J. Hunsecker, a Manhattan media kingpin who controls the city and its politicians through the flow of information. Tony Curtis plays Sidney Falco, a slimy press agent without much pull, a death sentence in his line of work. Falco needs to get in Hunsecker’s good graces, and he’ll do whatever it takes to achieve that end. A box office bomb upon release, esteem for the film has grown considerably in the decades since and it’s now considered one of the greatest film noirs ever made. Dark and sinister, with amazing lead performances and visually stunning cinematography from James Wong Howe, SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS is not to be missed.
