Our study of femme fatales continues with Robert Siodmak’s THE KILLERS. A tense film noir, THE KILLERS follows the mystery surrounding a seemingly ordinary man, known as “The Swede,” who is brutally murdered by two hitmen in a small town. As an insurance investigator looks into the circumstances of the killing, the story unfolds in a series of flashbacks, revealing layers of betrayal, crime, and intrigue. It soon becomes evident that the Swede, portrayed by Burt Lancaster in his film debut, may have been drawn into a bank heist by his love interest, Kitty Collins, played by the captivating Ava Gardner.
