Every summer, the Nevada City Film Festival (NCFF) makes art into a party, bringing an audience of movie lovers together with emerging and top independent filmmakers to showcase award-winning short and feature length films from around the world.
The 25th annual edition kicks off June 20 through the 22nd at the beautiful, historic Nevada Theatre and jewel box arthouse theatre The Onyx, with a remarkable program of 60+ films that cross genres, borders, languages—and even the cosmos—revealing the humor, heartache, wonder, and beauty of the human experience. From unforgettable characters to faraway places, each story invites us into new worlds and fresh perspectives. Expect breathtaking visuals, powerful performances, and truly inspiring examples of independent filmmaking at its best.
NCFF is often referred to as the “Sundance of the Sierra” for its emphasis on fiercely independent cinema that showcases innovative, progressive and exciting new voices in film. In 2020, NCFF was named by USA Today as the #3 Best Festival in the US. In 2023, NCFF was included in Moviemaker Magazine’s 25 Coolest Film Festivals list. Most recently, the festival was named for the fifth time by Moviemaker Magazine as one of the top 50 film festivals in the world worth the submission fee for filmmakers.
This year, over 600 films were submitted to NCFF from 57 countries around the globe. NCFF festival directors narrowed this year’s program down to seven shorts programs and eight features to screen over three days.
