Present Laughter is Noël Coward’s delightful comedy of manners centering on Garry Essendine, a self-absorbed, aging star whose personal life is in constant chaos. As he prepares for an overseas tour, Garry juggles a series of unwanted visitors: a starstruck young admirer; an eccentric young playwright seeking mentorship; and an acquaintance determined to have an affair with him. As romantic entanglements and professional obligations collide, Present Laughter wittily explores the exhausting nature of celebrity, the thin line between public persona and private self, and the price of living in the spotlight.
