Paul Emery’s “Nevada City Live” series presents Hardly Strictly Celtic, a multi-generational evening of something new, something old, something borrowed, something bold… A musical experience combining over 100 plus years of musicianship featuring Three Times Through, The Dolli Mamas and the Low Coals. Age before beauty, Three Times Through have been performing since Carter was president (with a 30 year break to raise families), the Dolli Mamas span three generations and the Low Coals are the new kids on the block. Enjoy an evening filled with Celtic surprises and a fabulous finale with a coming together of the ages.

Three Times Through
Local favorites Three Times Through mash up traditional Celtic tunes with recognizable contemporary melodies – from the Harry Potter theme to Light My Fire, Eleanor Rigby, Jump, StarWars and beyond! Their vocals range from old Celtic ballads, contemporary Irish and Scottish songwriters to modern Irish punk. People ask us, “What is that instrument? And did you just mash-up a Rolling Stones song with an Irish jig?” Playing unique instruments, they are a kinda Celtic quartet re-imagining and blending traditional tunes with modern music. Come curious, leave refreshed!

The Dolli Mamas
The Dolli Mamas, a locally treasured harmony-driven acoustic female trio, bring decades of vibrant multi-instrumental musical talent to the stage, blending Celtic-spirited folk with reimagined traditional classics and heartfelt originals. Seasoned international performer, Anni McCann, arranges the group’s expressive vocals, alongside keyboards, guitar, mandolin, and tin whistle, while Elena Rayo elegantly weaves her violin, guitar, and her well-honed songwriting artistry and fiddler Emilie Rose adds rich layers of deeply rooted Old Time and Celtic influence. Together, they create a warm, lively, and memorable acoustic sound.

The Low Coals
The Low Coals are the next generation of Nevada County Celtic musicians. A raggle-taggle group of musicians that have been playing fresh trad together in the back rooms, kitchens, and dance floors of Nevada County for over a decade. Rooted in Scottish, Irish, Scandinavian, and Galician traditional music, The Low Coals bring an invigorating energy and joie de vivre to the many songs and tune traditions they flow between. Nevada County locals Emilie Rose and Ben Grove tear up the bow hairs on the fiddle, with Cameron Fraser and Delphine Griffith holding it down on the guitar and harp. With a wide range of traditional and original tunes and songs, you’ll be hard pressed not to get up out of your seat and dance when The Low Coals start playing.
