“What do you remember about Rumpelstilzchen?”
“Wasn’t he the one who spins straw into gold?”
“Well yes, but in our re-telling of the story we learn that what Rumpelstilzchen really spins is much more precious than gold, for he spins stories…. ”
No one has ever gone back to the origins of Rumpelstilzchen and answered the questions about who is and where he comes from. However, when we look deeper into the Brother’s Grimm fairy tale; Rumpelstilzchen, we find a very misunderstood and sympathetic character.
Why is he forever cast as a villain when the real evil lurking between the pages is a ruthless King consumed by greed?
In Rumpelstilzchen’s Fairy Gold, Rumpel finally gets to be the hero and tell his side of the story.
With the help of two wise cracking bookworms, a mysterious witch in the woods and a larger-than-life operatic singing book, Rumpelstilzchen sets off on a quest to become a story spinner, save the world and answer the question:
“If stories come from the world of imagination, what would happen if there weren’t any stories left?”
Rumpelstilzchen’s Fairy Gold, produced by Swazzle and Heady Lore productions is a musical play written by Dalrymple MacAlpin. It features 11 original songs performed live with piano, harp and vocals by MacAlpin, cello by orchestral soloist Jiamo Chen and saxophone/vibraphone by Jesse Krautkramer. The show features actors, singers and puppeteers Toni-Tone of Giant Puppets Save The World, Raven Aletheia, Audrey Delgado and Jori Phillips who together bring to life a kaleidoscopic cast of characters including several puppets MacAlpin designed and hand carved after studying with Czech puppet master, Miroslav Trejtnar of Puppets In Prague.
All ages will enjoy this musical stage spectacle!
