September 9, 1865: Though many believe this to be the day of the Nevada Theatre Grand Opening, it is actually the day the Grand Opening is advertised in the local news paper with the following:
“The new theater will be opened next Monday night (Sept. 11, 1865) by one of the best
companies that ever visted this city. Dan Setchell will appear in one of his best pieces and
the Worrell Sisters are to appear. They are sustained by a splendid company of 18
persons. The scenery will be finished and the company will be able to produce their pieces
under most favorably conditions.” - Nevada Daily Transcript.
September 11, 1865: This is considered and advertised as the Grand Opening of the Nevada Theatre. The auditorium, capable of seating 1,000 people, was constructed under the immediate supervision of Mr. George S. Pierce. The program started with Dan Setchell with his Comic and Burlesque Combinations followed by the Worrell Sisters (Sophie, Irene, and Little Jennie) opened with an address written by W. J. Biggs. This was followed by a comic drama in 2 acts of the Dutch Governor and concluded with a fairy burlesque of Cinderella. Admission for the Grand Opening was $1.00.
September 12, 1865: A second program of Dan Setchell and the Worrell Sisters took place.
September 18, 1865: The program showed ‘The Tanner Troupe’, Band Music, Plantation Dancers, and plays as follow: The Dumb Boy of Genoe, The Young Scamp, and Trip to a Ball. Ticket cost was $0.50
