July 3, 1865: A company styling themselves the New York Minstrels announced that they would make a ‘grand opening’ for themselves at the Nevada Theatre. About 100 people were in attendance. They finished about half of the program when someone informed the audience that the balance of the program will be played in Grass Valley and the band left for Grass Valley to finish the show.
July 4, 1865: The theatre is still not completed, so instead of the originally scheduled grand opening of the Nevada Theatre, this night ends up being a benefit ball for Nevada Quadrille Band. Tickets were $2.50.
August 15, 1865: “The new theatre will soon be finished and ready for use. A contract has been let to Mr. Campbell, the artist who painted the panorama of Washoe and California. We understand that he will commence work within a day or two. The drop curtain will be finished first. The theatre has been a long time in the hands of workmen and citizens will be glad to know that here is a prospect of its being speedily finished.” - Nevada Daily Transcript.
