Woody Allen’s latest romantic comedy, set in Paris, is about Gil (Owen Wilson), a screenwriter who falls through a crack in time and is transported back to the 1920s. There he is swept up by F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald who take him to a party where he meets and falls in love with Adriana (Marion Cotillard), who is having an affair with Picasso. It’s as if all of Woody Allen’s fantasies about Paris come to life and he gets to create hilarious interchanges between today and legends from the past, including Gertrude Stein, Hemingway and Dali. Gil is able to go back and forth in time, which makes his romantic antics slightly confusing. This is Woody Allen’s most successful film in years. “Highest Rating. This movie is loving and wistful and often hysterically funny.” –Mick LaSalle, S.F. Chronicle.
